RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Retention of weight gained over pregnancy increases the risk of long-term obesity and related health concerns. While many risk factors for this postpartum weight retention have been examined, the role of mode of delivery in this relationship remains controversial. We carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the effect of mode of delivery on postpartum weight retention. METHODS: Ten electronic databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Web of Science, MEDLINE, CINAHL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wan-Fang database, the VIP database and China Biology Medicine Database (CBM) were searched from inception through November 2022. Review Manager 5.4 was used to pool the study data and calculate effect sizes. For dichotomous data, the odds ratio and 95 % confidence interval were used to report the results. For continuous data, the mean difference (MD) and 95 % confidence interval were used to report the results. The outcomes were the amount of postpartum weight retention and the number or proportion of women who experienced postpartum weight retention. The Newcastle- Ottawa Scale (NOS) and GRADE Guidelines were used to assess the methodological quality of the included studies. FINDINGS: A total of 16 articles were included in the systematic review and 13 articles were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed that the mode of delivery had a significant effect on postpartum weight retention, women who delivered by caesarean section were more likely to experience postpartum weight retention compared to those who delivered vaginally. Sensitivity analysis showed that the results were stable and credible. CONCLUSION: Due to the limitations of this study, the findings need to be treated with caution. And, to better prevent the postpartum weight retention, future practice and research need to further focus on upstream modifiable factors.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Reducing operative injuries is important in living donor nephrectomy. The robot-assisted transperitoneal approach has some advantages than traditional laparoscopic techniques. However, longer operation time and risks of abdominal complications indicate the need for improved techniques. The aim of this study is to present the robot-assisted laparoscopic retroperitoneal donor nephrectomy and evaluate its safety and feasibility. METHODS: This was a retrospective study. From June 2016 to December 2020, 218 living donors underwent robot-assisted laparoscopic retroperitoneal donor nephrectomy. Perioperative data such as operation time, warm ischemia time, length of stay and complications were collected and analyzed. To evaluate the feasibility of this surgical technique, the cumulative summation method was used to construct a learning curve. RESULTS: There were 60 male and 158 female donors aged 36-72 years, with an average age of 53.1 ± 6.8 years. Three patients (1.4%) were converted to open surgery. The mean operation time was 115.4 ± 41.9 min, the warm ischemia time was 206.6 ± 146.7 s, and the length of stay was 4.1 ± 1.4 days. Complications were reported in 22 patients (10.1%), three of whom (1.4%) had Clavien‒Dindo IIIa complications. No ileus occurred. No donors were readmitted. Four patients had delayed graft function. The cumulative summation curve showed that the number needed to reach proficiency was 33. The operation time and warm ischemia time after technical proficiency were 100.4 ± 21.6 min and 142.5 ± 50.7 s, respectively. CONCLUSION: Robot-assisted laparoscopic retroperitoneal donor nephrectomy is a safe and efficient technique that offers advantages of shorter operation time and no abdominal organ interference.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The timing of antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients with normal alanine transaminase (ALT) or aged < 30 years is still undetermined. We aimed to elucidate the correlation between liver histology, age, and ALT level in CHB patients and analyze the histological characteristics of the liver among patients with persistently normal ALT or aged < 30 years. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 697 treatment-naive CHB patients. Liver biopsies were performed, and significant histological damage was defined as the grade of liver inflammation ≥ G2 and/or fibrosis ≥ S2 based on the Scheuer scoring system. RESULTS: The liver inflammation grades and fibrosis stages correlated positively with age, ALT, AST, GGT levels and negatively with the counts of PLT (all p < 0.050) in HBeAg-positive patients. Higher ALT levels and lower PLT counts were independently associated with significant liver inflammation and fibrosis in both HBeAg-positive and HBeAg-negative patients. Furthermore, among those with persistently normal ALT levels, the incidence of significant liver inflammation and fibrosis were 66.1% and 53.7% in HBeAg-positive groups, and 63.0% and 55.5% in HBeAg-negative groups. Moreover, there was no significant difference in the prevalence of significant liver damage between patients aged < 30 years and those aged ≥ 30 years, in both HBeAg-positive (≥ G2 or ≥ S2: 63.8% vs. 75.8%, p = 0.276) and HBeAg-negative (≥ G2 or ≥ S2: 65.9% vs. 72.5%, p = 0.504) groups, among patients with persistently normal ALT levels. CONCLUSIONS: A considerable proportion of CHB patients with persistently normal ALT, including those below the age of 30 years, exhibited significant histological damage. This highlights the importance of initiating early antiviral therapy for HBV-infected individuals, even in the absence of elevated ALT levels.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: D-type cyclins (CYCD) regulate the cell cycle G1/S transition and are thus closely involved in cell cycle progression. However, little is known about their functions in rice. RESULTS: We identified 14 CYCD genes in the rice genome and confirmed the presence of characteristic cyclin domains in each. The expression of the OsCYCD genes in different tissues was investigated. Most OsCYCD genes were expressed at least in one of the analyzed tissues, with varying degrees of expression. Ten OsCYCD proteins could interact with both retinoblastoma-related protein (RBR) and A-type cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKA) forming holistic complexes, while OsCYCD3;1, OsCYCD6;1, and OsCYCD7;1 bound only one component, and OsCYCD4;2 bound to neither protein. Interestingly, all OsCYCD genes except OsCYCD7;1, were able to induce tobacco pavement cells to re-enter mitosis with different efficiencies. Transgenic rice plants overexpressing OsCYCD2;2, OsCYCD6;1, and OsCYCD7;1 (which induced cell division in tobacco with high-, low-, and zero-efficiency, respectively) were created. Higher levels of cell division were observed in both the stomatal lineage and epidermal cells of the OsCYCD2;2- and OsCYCD6;1-overexpressing plants, with lower levels seen in OsCYCD7;1-overexpressing plants. CONCLUSIONS: The distinct expression patterns and varying effects on the cell cycle suggest different functions for the various OsCYCD proteins. Our findings will enhance understanding of the CYCD family in rice and provide a preliminary foundation for the future functional verification of these genes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Due to the chronic nature of HIV, mental health has become a critical concern in people living with HIV (PLWHIV). However, little knowledge exists about the association between fear of progression (FoP) and medical coping modes (MCMs) in PLWHIV in China. METHODS: A cohort of 303 PLWHIV were consecutively enrolled and their demographic, clinical and psychological information was collected. The Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form (FoP-Q-SF), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), Internalized HIV Stigma Scale (IHSS) and MCMs Questionnaire were utilized. RESULTS: Of the participants, 215 PLWHIV were classified into the low-level FoP group, and 88 were grouped into the high-level FoP group based on their FoP-Q-SF scores, according to the criteria for the classification of dysfunctional FoP in cancer patients. The high-level group had a higher proportion of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) stage (P = 0.005), lower education levels (P = 0.027) and lower income levels (P = 0.031). Additionally, the high-level group had lower scores in social support (P < 0.001) and its three dimensions, with total SSRS scores showing a negative correlation with two dimensions of FoP-Q-SF, namely physical health (r2 = 0.0409, P < 0.001) and social family (r2 = 0.0422, P < 0.001). Further, the high-level group had higher scores in four dimensions of internalized HIV stigma, and a positive relationship was found to exist between IHSS scores and FoP-Q-SF scores for physical health (r2 = 0.0960, P < 0.001) and social family (r2 = 0.0719, P < 0.001). Social support (OR = 0.929, P = 0.001), being at the AIDS stage (OR = 3.795, P = 0.001), and internalized HIV stigma (OR = 1.028, P < 0.001) were independent factors for FoP. Furthermore, intended MCMs were evaluated. FoP were positively correlated with avoidance scores (r2 = 0.0886, P < 0.001) and was validated as the only factor for the mode of confrontation (OR = 0.944, P = 0.001) and avoidance (OR = 1.059, P = 0.001) in multivariate analysis. CONCLUSION: The incidence of dysfunctional FoP in our study population was relatively high. High-level FoP was associated with poor social support, high-level internalized HIV stigma and a negative MCM among PLWHIV.

RESUMO

Purpose: Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that results in the loss of epidermal melanocytes. The treatments for patients with vitiligo remain lacking. Erzhiwan (EZW), a traditional Chinese Medicine composed of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus and Ecliptae Herba, was used to ameliorate depigmentation since ancient China. This study aims to investigate the effect of EZW on vitiligo-related depigmentation. Methods: A vitiligo-related depigmentation mouse model was induced by monobenzone and restraint stress. The experimental depigmentation mice were treated with EZW. Histological observation of skin was conducted. Cutaneous oxidative damage and inflammation were determined. A network pharmacology analysis was carried out. Results: EZW reduced depigmentation score (p<0.01), cutaneous inflammatory infiltration (p<0.01), and CD8α-positive expression (p<0.01), and increased cutaneous melanin content in experimental depigmentation mice. EZW reduced stress reaction in experimental depigmentation mice (p<0.01). EZW inhibited 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG)-related DNA oxidative damage in the skin (p<0.05, p<0.01). In addition, EZW reduced cutaneous macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF)-CD74-NF-κB signaling (p<0.01). The network pharmacology analysis demonstrated that EZW regulated necroptosis, apoptosis, and FoxO signaling pathways in vitiligo. An in vitro experiment showed that the main ingredient of EZW, specnuezhenide, protected against monobenzone and MIF-induced cell death in HaCaT cells (p<0.01). Conclusion: EZW ameliorates restraint stress- and monobenzone-induced depigmentation via the inhibition of MIF and 8-OHdG signaling. The findings provide a data basis of an utilization of EZW in vitiligo.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Irinotecan is a novel first-line therapy for colorectal cancer, but the toxicity and side effects include diarrhea without satisfactory treatments. Chinese herbal decoction (CHD) is an effective complementary and alternative prevention and therapy for irinotecan induced diarrhea (IID). This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) aims to assess the preventive effect of CHD in the treatment of IID. METHODS: Seven databases (PubMed, COCHRANE, EMBASE, CNKI, VIP, Wanfang, and CBM) were screened for random controlled trials on the prevention and treatment of IID by CHD from January 1980 to May 2022. The Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias (ROB 2.0) was applied for bias risk assessment, and the Grading Recommendation Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) for quality of evidence. Meta-analysis was conducted with RevMan 5.3 software. In addition, a subgroup analysis was conducted on different grades of diarrhea, the incidence and duration of diarrhea, the selection of specific Chinese herbal medicine decoction, and the incidence of adverse reactions. Risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated for all data by combining the meta-analysis with fixed or random-effects models based on outcome heterogeneity. RESULTS: Fourteen RCTs involving 1056 participants were included. The study results displayed that the incidence of IID was lower with the use of CHD than the no-treatment group (RR = 0.55, 95% CI = 0.40-0.75, P = 0.0002). CHD in combination with western medicine (WM) was more effective than WM alone for IID (RR = 0.44, 95% CI 0.23-0.84, P = 0.01). This protective effect was more pronounced for severe grade III-V diarrhea (RR = 0.41, 95% CI = 0.26-0.64, P < 0.0001). In the specific Chinese herbal medicine decoction, the Banxia Xie Xin decoction presented better effectiveness (RR = 0.18, 95% CI: 0.05-0.63, P = 0.007) than WM alone. The Huangqin decoction was the most widely studied interventional scheme (n = 5). The relative risk (RR) of the Huangqin decoction was 0.56. No obvious adverse reactions were observed. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that CHD has a preventive effect on IID and could be used as a complementary therapy with few side effects. However, additional large-sample, high-quality, randomized, double-blind trials are needed to guide the clinical practice scientifically. RESUMO

Polysulfide-based multilevel memorizers are promising as novel memorizers, in which the occurrence of Sn2- relaxation is key for their multilevel memory. However, the effects of crystal packing and the side group of organic ligands on Sn2- relaxation are still ambiguous. In this work, ionic [Zn(S6)2·Zn2(Bipy)2SO4 (1), Zn(S6)2·Zn(Pmbipy)3 (2)] and neutral [ZnS6(Ombipy) (3), ZnS6(Phen)2 (4)] Zn/polysulfide/organic complexes with different packing modes and structures of organic ligands have been synthesized and were fabricated as memory devices. In both ionic and neutral Zn complexes, the S62- relaxation will be blocked by steric hindrances due to the packing of counter-cations and hydrogen-bond restrictions. Consequently, only the binary memory performances can be seen in FTO/1/Ag, FTO/2/Ag, and FTO/4/Ag, which originate from the more condensed packing of conjugated ligands upon electrical stimulus. Interestingly, FTO/3/Ag illustrates the unique thermally triggered reversible binary-ternary switchable memory performance. In detail, after introducing a methyl group on the 6'-position of bipyridine in ZnS6(Ombipy) (3), the ring-to-chain relaxation of S62- anions at room temperature will be inhibited, but it can happen at a higher temperature of 120 °C, which has been verified by elongated S-S lengths and the strengthened C-H···S hydrogen bond upon heating. The rules drawn in this work will provide a useful guide for the design of stimulus-responsive memorizers that can be applied in special industries such as automobile, oil, and gas industries.

RESUMO

Curiosity, or novelty seeking, is a fundamental mechanism motivating animals to explore and exploit environments to improve survival, and is also positively associated with cognitive, intrapersonal and interpersonal well-being in humans. However, curiosity declines as humans age, and the decline even positively predicts the extent of cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease patients. Therefore, determining the underlying mechanism, which is currently unknown, is an urgent task for the present aging society that is growing at an unprecedented rate. This study finds that seeking behaviors for both social and inanimate novelties are compromised in aged mice, suggesting that the aging-related decline in curiosity and novelty-seeking is a biological process. This study further identifies an aging-related reduction in the activity (manifesting as a reduction in spontaneous firing) of dopaminergic neurons in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc). Finally, this study establishes that this reduction in activity causally underlies the aging-related decline in novelty-seeking behaviors. This study potentially provides an interventional strategy for maintaining high curiosity in the aged population, i.e., compensating for the reduced activity of VTA/SNc dopaminergic neurons, enabling the aged population to cope more smoothly with the present growing aging society, physically, cognitively and socioeconomically.

RESUMO

Psychological stress promotes nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) development. However, the pathogenesis of psychological stress-induced NASH remains unclear. This study aims to explore the underlying mechanism of restraint stress-induced NASH, which mimics psychological stress, and to discover potential NASH candidates. Methionine choline deficient diet- and high fat diet-induced hepatosteatotic mice are subjected to restraint stress to induce NASH. The mice are administrated with Xiaoyaosan granules, NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inhibitors, farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonists, or macrophage scavengers. Pathological changes and NLRP3 signaling in the liver are determined. These results demonstrate that restraint stress promotes hepatic inflammation and fibrosis in hepatosteatotic mice. Restraint stress increases the expressions of NLRP3, Caspase-1, Gasdermin D, interleukin-1ß, cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase, and sterol 12α-hydroxylase and decreases the expression of FXR in NASH mice. Xiaoyaosan granules reverse hepatic inflammation and fibrosis and target FXR and NLRP3 signals. In addition, inhibition of NLRP3 reduces the NLRP3 inflammasome and liver damage in mice with restraint stress-induced NASH. Elimination of macrophages and activation of FXR also attenuate inflammation and fibrosis by inhibiting NLRP3 signaling. However, NLRP3 inhibitors or macrophage scavengers fail to affect the expression of FXR. In conclusion, restraint stress promotes NASH-related inflammation and fibrosis by regulating the FXR/NLRP3 signaling pathway. Xiaoyaosan granules, NLRP3 inhibitors, FXR agonists, and macrophage scavengers are potential candidates for the treatment of psychological stress-related NASH.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Extravillous trophoblast cell (EVT) differentiation and its communication with maternal decidua especially the leading immune cell type natural killer (NK) cell are critical events for placentation. However, appropriate in vitro modelling system and regulatory programs of these two events are still lacking. Recent trophoblast organoid (TO) has advanced the molecular and mechanistic research in placentation. Here, we firstly generated the self-renewing TO from human placental villous and differentiated it into EVTs (EVT-TO) for investigating the differentiation events. We then co-cultured EVT-TO with freshly isolated decidual NKs for further study of cell communication. TO modelling of EVT differentiation as well as EVT interaction with dNK might cast new aspect for placentation research. RESULTS: Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) was applied for comprehensive characterization and molecular exploration of TOs modelling of EVT differentiation and interaction with dNKs. Multiple distinct trophoblast states and dNK subpopulations were identified, representing CTB, STB, EVT, dNK1/2/3 and dNKp. Lineage trajectory and Seurat mapping analysis identified the close resemblance of TO and EVT-TO with the human placenta characteristic. Transcription factors regulatory network analysis revealed the cell-type specific essential TFs for controlling EVT differentiation. CellphoneDB analysis predicted the ligand-receptor complexes in dNK-EVT-TO co-cultures, which relate to cytokines, immunomodulation and angiogenesis. EVT was known to affect the immune properties of dNK. Our study found out that on the other way around, dNKs could exert effects on EVT causing expression changes which are functionally important. CONCLUSION: Our study documented a single-cell atlas for TO and its applications on EVT differentiation and communications with dNKs, and thus provide methodology and novel research cues for future study of human placentation.

RESUMO

Human society is aging, and the percentage of the population of older adults is increasing at an unprecedented rate. It is increasingly appreciated that social behaviors change with aging. One such example is the possible aging-related reduction in dominance status. This change has been thought to underlie older adults' peculiar vulnerability to fraud, which has become a major challenge in the present aging society. However, whether this change is an inherent physiological process, and, if so, its underlying microscopic physiological mechanism, is not known. This study used groups of mice in a design that minimized effects that could confound any inherent process of dominance and verified that social dominance does inherently reduce with aging. This study further identified an aging-related microscopic functional alteration, that is, a reduction in the activity of glutamatergic pyramidal neurons in the prelimbic medial prefrontal cortex; and established that this reduction in neuronal activity serves as an intrinsic physiological mechanism underlying the macroscopic aging-related reduction in dominance. This study, by exploiting modern neurobiological techniques, sheds light on our understanding of human social behaviors during aging and may help develop strategies to counter related social challenges among the older adults population.

RESUMO

Background: The fertility of female kidney transplant recipients is increasing with the progression of transplant management. This article aims to evaluate the clinical prognosis of mothers and newborns for post-kidney transplant couples. Methods: From January 2019 to April 2022, a total of four couples, all kidney transplant recipients, were successfully prepared for pregnancy after a rigorous preconception evaluation, including three cases of natural conception and one case of in vitro fertilization. Data regarding the mother and newborn, including general clinical condition and laboratory results, were recorded and assessed throughout the pregnancy and up until 12 months after delivery. Results: The mean conception age of the mothers was 34.8 years (30-38 years), and the mean interval between renal transplantation and pregnancy was 6.6 years (3.7-8.7 years). All deliveries were by cesarean section and took place without incident. There were three premature births (<37 weeks; average 35.1 weeks). In case 1 (in vitro fertilization), pre-eclampsia occurred during maternity, and this was the only case in which the fetal weight was less than 2,500 g (average 2,576.7 g). The mean Apgar score (1 min) was 7.8 (6-9) and reached 9 in all cases at 5 min. The mothers' eGFR rose during mid-gestation, decreased in late pregnancy, and was largely restored along with proteinuria 1 year postpartum. Postnatal evaluation at 6 months showed normal neurological development. In addition, NK cell and IFN-γ levels increased and Treg cell and IL-10 levels decreased along with the onset of pre-eclampsia. Conclusions: Pregnancies can succeed in couples who are both kidney transplant recipients. However, there might be higher risks of infertility, prematurity, and low birth weight.

RESUMO

An increasing trend of research on microplastics (MPs) pollution in soil requires plenty of accurate data on MPs occurrence in soil samples. Efficient and economical methods of obtaining MP data are in development, especially for film MPs. We focused on MPs originating from agricultural mulching films (AMF) and presented an approach that can separate MPs in batches and identify them quickly. It mainly includes separation by ultrasonic cleaning and centrifugation, digestion of organic matter, and an AMF-MPs identification model. Adding olive oil or n-hexane to saturated sodium chloride constituted the best combination of separation solutions. Controlled experiments proved that the optimized methods improved the efficiency of this approach. The AMF-MPs identification model provides specific characteristics of MPs and can identify MPs efficiently. Evaluation results showed that the mean MP recovery rate reached 95%. The practical application demonstrated that this approach could conduct MPs analysis in soil samples in batches with less time and low cost.

RESUMO

The use of crystalline metal-organic complexes with definite structures as multilevel memories can enable explicit structure-property correlations, which is significant for designing the next generation of memories. Here, four Zn-polysulfide complexes with different degrees of conjugation have been fabricated as memory devices. ZnS6(L)2-based memories (L = pyridine and 3-methylpyridine) can exhibit only bipolar binary memory performances, but ZnS6(L)-based memories (L = 2,2'-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline) illustrate non-volatile ternary memory performances with high ON2/ON1/OFF ratios (104.22/102.27/1 and 104.85/102.58/1) and ternary yields (74% and 78%). Their ON1 states stem from the packing adjustments of organic ligands upon the injection of carriers, and the ON2 states are a result of the ring-to-chain relaxation of S62- anions. The lower conjugated degrees in ZnS6(L)2 result in less compact packing; consequently, the adjacent S62- rings are too long to trigger the S62- relaxation. The deep structure-property correlation in this work provides a new strategy for implementing multilevel memory by triggering polysulfide relaxation based on the conjugated degree regulation of organic ligands.

RESUMO

The human placenta is a unique temporary organ with a mysterious immune tolerance. The formation of trophoblast organoids has advanced the study of placental development. HLA-G is uniquely expressed in the extravillous trophoblast (EVT) and has been linked to placental disorders. With older experimental methodologies, the role of HLA-G in trophoblast function beyond immunomodulation is still contested, as is its role during trophoblast differentiation. Organoid models incorporating CRISPR/Cas9 technology were used to examine the role of HLA-G in trophoblast function and differentiation. JEG-3 trophoblast organoids (JEG-3-ORGs) were established that highly expressed trophoblast representative markers and had the capacity to differentiate into EVT. CRISPR/Cas9 based on HLA-G knockout (KO) significantly altered the trophoblast immunomodulatory effect on the cytotoxicity of natural killer cells, as well as the trophoblast regulatory effect on HUVEC angiogenesis, but had no effect on the proliferation and invasion of JEG-3 cells and the formation of TB-ORGs. RNA-sequencing analysis further demonstrated that JEG-3 KO cells followed similar biological pathways as their wild-type counterparts during the formation of TB-ORGs. In addition, neither HLA-G KO nor the exogenous addition of HLA-G protein during EVT differentiation from JEG-3-ORGs altered the temporal expression of the known EVT marker genes. Based on the JEG-3 KO (disruption of exons 2 and 3) cell line and the TB-ORGs model, it was determined that HLA-G has a negligible effect on trophoblast invasion and differentiation. Despite this, JEG-3-ORG remains a valuable model for studying trophoblast differentiation.

RESUMO

A lack of stability in the expression of Bacillus thuringiensis genes (CRY) and the dialaninophosphate resistance gene (BAR) in transgenic rice plants can lead to the loss of important characters. The genetic stability of transgenic expression in high-generation lines is thus critically important for ensuring the success of molecular breeding efforts. Here, we studied the genetic stability of resistance to insect pests and herbicides in transgenic rice lines at the molecular and phenotypic levels in a pesticide-free environment. Southern blot analysis, real-time polymerase chain reaction, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays revealed high stability in the copy numbers and expression levels of CRY1C, CRY2A, and BAR in transgenic lines across different generations, and gene expression levels were highly correlated with protein expression levels. The insecticide resistance of the transgenic rice lines was high. The larval mortality of Chilo suppressalis was 50.25% to 68.36% higher in transgenic lines than in non-transgenic control lines. Percent dead hearts and percent white spikelets were 16.66% to 22.15% and 27.07% to 33.47% lower in transgenic lines than in non-transgenic control lines, respectively. The herbicide resistance of the transgenic rice lines was also high. The bud length and root length ranged were 2.53 cm to 4.20 cm and 0.28 cm to 0.73 cm higher in transgenic lines than in non-transgenic control lines in the budding stage, respectively. Following application of the herbicide Basta, the chlorophyll content of the transgenic lines began to recover 2 d later in the seedling and tillering stages and 3 d later in the booting and heading stages, by contrast, the chlorophyll content of the non-transgenic lines did not recover and continued to decrease. These findings revealed high genetic stability of the resistance to insect pests and herbicides across several generations of transgenic rice regardless of the genetic background.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Drowned victims possibly obtain various pathogens from drowning sites. Using drowned renal donors to expand the donor pool still lacks consensus due to the potential risk of disease transmission. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: This retrospective study enrolled 38 drowned donor renal recipients in a large clinical center from August 2012 to February 2021. A 1:2 matched cohort was generated with donor demographics, including age, gender, BMI, and ICU durations. Donor microbiological results, recipient perioperative infections, and early post-transplant and first-year clinical outcomes were analyzed. RESULTS: Compared to the control group, drowned donors had significantly increased positive fungal cultures (36.84% vs.13.15%, p = 0.039). Recipients in the drowned group had significantly higher rates of gram-negative bacteria (GNB) and multidrug-resistant GNB infections (23.68% vs.5.26%, 18.42% vs. 3.95%, both p < 0.05). Other colonization and infections were also numerically more frequent in the drowned group. Drowned donor recipients receiving inadequate antibiotic prophylaxis had more perioperative bloodstream infections, higher DGF incidences, and more first-year respiratory tract infections and recipient loss than those receiving adequate prophylaxis (all p < 0.05). Clinical outcomes were similar between the adequate group and the control group. CONCLUSIONS: Drowned donors could be suitable options under wide-spectrum and adequate antimicrobial prophylaxis.
